Bio

Mary Crenshaw’s paintings, ceramics, and prints explore themes of migration and the role of chance in creation. Personal experience and observation are at the center of her work.
Crenshaw constructs images in which figures and objects emerge and dissolve, with process shaping the outcomes. Her practice is informed by an interest in mark making and gesture. Working across various mediums, her practice is influenced by Eastern philosophical concepts, particularly those relating to force and energy. Through painting, she investigates how narratives are subjective, allowing for open-ended interpretations of the final outcomes.

Crenshaw has exhibited nationally and internationally, with solo exhibitions in New York, London, Milan, and Seoul, and participation in exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe. She received a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University, an MFA in Visual Arts from Lesley University College of Art and Design, and a DFA in Visual Art from the University of East London.
She is represented in Milan by Galleria L'Affiche, and in New York by The Painting Center.
